Applicability

Aircraft Registration Number Maintenance Procedures

SIL Summary

This SIL reviews the proper procedures for changing an aircraft registration number.

SIL Background

EAI has received inquiries from owner/operators and maintainers regarding the proper procedures for changing an aircraft registration number.

Eclipse Action

EAI has issued this SIL to review the proper procedures, and limitations when changing an aircraft registration number.

Suggested Operator Action

Owner/operators and maintainers should always follow all applicable EA500 Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) policies and procedures.

The procedures in AMM-31-40-00-051-801 include all the necessary information and procedures to update the registration number stored in the avionics for an aircraft in the AvioNG 1.3 and 1.5 configuration.

In addition to the AMM-31-40-00-051-801 procedures. Registration number changes for Aircraft in the AvioNG 1.7, IFMS 2.0 and IFMS 2.5 configurations have additional procedures that must be performed by Eclipse Aerospace factory service centers.

Aircraft in these configurations incorporate EFB, FMS, and Autothrottle functions that are individually activated and licensed by registration number. When an aircraft is upgraded to one of the applicable configurations, a license to activate each of the functions is installed in the MFD. After the licenses are installed, each one is activated by pairing the license key to the aircraft registration number. The MFD verifies the paired license keys match the registration number during every subsequent power up. If the key does not match, the licensed functions are disabled.

When a new aircraft registration number is loaded into the MFD as part of a registration number change the paired license keys will become invalid. New un-paired license keys must be installed and paired to re-enable the functions. Eclipse Aerospace factory service centers are the only facilities authorized to install un-paired keys in an aircraft.

The MFD Registration Data Plate is replaced as part of the registration change. The part number of the plate used on all the aircraft referenced by this SIL is 31-117521-2002. The plates in stock are blank, they are laser engraved by Eclipse as they are ordered.

The registration number stored in the ME-406 ELT must be updated separately from the rest of the aircraft avionics. The procedure to perform the programming is contained in AMM-25-60-00-071-801. If an ELT programming unit is not available locally the ELT can be removed and shipped to an Eclipse Aerospace factory service center for re-programming.

NOTE: When shipping an ELT for re-programming, remove the ELT battery before shipment. The Lithium-Manganese Dioxide (Li-MnO2) battery used in the ELT qualifies as hazardous material for shipping purposes. Removing the battery greatly simplifies the shipment process.
