Applicability

Weather Radar Equipped Aircraft

SIL Summary

EAI has selected the Honeywell RDR-2000 weather radar for the Eclipse 550. This unit offers excellent performance, and can be serviced at any Honeywell Service Center.

This also marks the discontinuation of the JRC JMA-500 weather radar. Eclipse currently has extremely limited stock of JRC radars. No future units will be available. Once the existing inventory is consumed, operators that need to replace their radar must upgrade to the Honeywell unit.

JRC has no capability to repair the existing units. The existing JRC inventory will be used to support AOG aircraft with a JRC radar and the 5120-401 radome.

According to Eclipse's production records, the following airplane serial numbers had a 5120-401 radome installed, 000240 to 000256 and 000266.

This SIL also includes information concerning the compatibility of radomes and weather radar models from JRC and Honeywell.

SIL Background

The JRC weather radar has been discontinued and no further replacements or repairs are available.

Eclipse Action

Eclipse is issuing this SIL to notify their customers of the discontinuation of the JRC weather radar and the need to upgrade to the Honeywell weather radar. For aircraft equipped with the 5120-401 radome, a radome replacement will also be required with the Honeywell radar.

Eclipse will issue AMM temporary revisions to address the issue.

Suggested Operator Action

Owner/operators and maintainers should be aware of the following compatibility limitations between weather radar models and radome part numbers.

The part number 5120-300 radome can be used with either the Honeywell RDR-2000 or the JRC JMA-500 weather radar units.

The part number 5120-401 radome can be only be used with the JRC JMA-500 weather radar unit.

If a JRC weather radar is being replaced with a Honeywell unit and the aircraft is equipped with a 5120-401 radome it must be replaced with a 5120-300 radome.
