SIL Summary
This letter communicates a means of enhancing the DSU to AMC connection with use of a USB hub adapter.
SIL Background
During routine maintenance, certain aircraft exhibited slower than expected DSU data transmission rates. Subsequent investigations revealed that longer harness and cable lengths may adversely affect DSU-to-AMC connectivity and data transmission rates. For those aircraft experiencing connectivity issues, installing a USB hub has the effect of increasing the functional length of the serial bus, thereby enhancing the connection to the DSU.
Eclipse Action
The recommendations contained in this SIL effectively address the anomalous condition; no additional service action is required.
Suggested Operator Action
Left USB port (Pilot Armrest): The USB port has not demonstrated any data transmission or connectivity issues. Right USB port (Co-Pilot Armrest): If an operator experiences AMC connection reliability issues or unusually long DSU download times EAI recommends installing the USB hub listed below between the USB port and USB flash drive/AMC USB-to-Ethernet adapter. RECOMMENDED TOOLS NOTE: The device listed below has demonstrated improved performance through testing by EAI. Many similar devices were tested that provided no performance improvement. This device does not require external power to operate effectively. Ativa® Mobil-IT 4-port USB Hub - Mfr. P/N HU4246 - Commercially available
