Applicability
Aircraft with parts provided by PMA Sales in Mesa, AZ
SIL Summary
This SIL provides cautionary information regarding certain parts for sale for installation on Eclipse aircraft that may not be FAA approved.
SIL Background
Eclipse Action
EAI has been made aware that a company identified as "PMA Sales" in Mesa, AZ is offering certain parts for sale that may not be FAA approved.
EAI previously reviewed these parts and the data supporting them. EAI was unable to obtain enough supporting information to allow these parts to receive FAA approval through EAI's Production Certificate.
The current advertisement being distributed shows no indication that these parts are FAA approved. The FAA database does not indicate that PMA Sales holds FAA PMA authority for these parts.
Suggested Operator Action
Owner/operators should always be cautious when purchasing replacement parts for their aircraft from non-EAI sources. Operators are encouraged to contact EAI for information on the acceptability of any parts.
Suspected unapproved parts should always be reported to the FAA. If you have any question regarding a suppliers authority to supply FAA approved parts contact your local FAA office for confirmation.
Operators should be aware of the following regulations regarding replacement aircraft parts:
14 CFR 21.9 Replacement and modification articles.
(a) If a person knows, or should know, that a replacement or modification article is reasonably likely to be installed on a type-certificated product, the person may not produce that article unless it is:
(1) Produced under a type certificate;
(2) Produced under an FAA production approval;
(b) Except as provided in paragraphs (a)(1) through (a)(2) of this section, a person who produces a replacement or modification article for sale may not represent that part as suitable for installation on a type-certificated product.
14 CFR 45.15 Marking requirements for PMA articles, TSO articles, and Critical parts.
(a) PMA articles. The manufacturer of a PMA article must permanently and legibly mark:
(1) Each PMA article, with the PMA holder's name, trademark, symbol, or other FAA approved identification and part number; and
(2) The letters "FAA-PMA".
