SIL Summary

This SIL provides information regarding pulling or collaring of FADEC ECBs with an engine running.

SIL Background

Pratt and Whitney Canada (PWC) recently contacted Eclipse Aerospace, Inc (EAI) regarding two engines with extensive damage to the high turbine and low turbine blades and the low turbine vanes. In both cases PWC suspects the cause of the damage is the result of shutting off FADEC power prior to shutting the engine down.

Eclipse Action

EAI is issuing this SIL to caution all operators against shutting off FADEC power with the engine running.

Suggested Operator Action

Owners, operators, and maintainers should be aware that intentionally pulling or collaring FADEC ECBs and then shutting the engine down may result in damage to the engine. The shutdown procedure in the normal procedures section of the airplane flight manual should be followed when shutting the aircraft and engines down.
