SIL Summary
The FAA Type Certificate Data Sheet (TCDS) for the Eclipse EA500 aircraft was revised on April 20, 2017.
SIL Background
Revision 20 of the FAA TCDS removed the aircraft life limit of 10,000 hours, 10,000 cycles, or 10 years as well as the requirement to maintain the aircraft in accordance with Service Bulletin SB 500-04-006 for the life to be extended to 20,000 hours or 20,000 cycles. The revised TCDS now directs you to the applicable Eclipse Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) for the aircraft structural life limits. The life limit for all aircraft S/N 000039 and up and S/N 000001 to 000038 when modified to the extended tip tank configuration by SB 500-99-001 is now 20,000 hours or 20,000 flights, whichever occurs first. The life limit of aircraft S/N 000001 to 000038 which retain the original smaller tip tanks is 10,000 flights or 10,000 cycles. The 10 year calendar life limit has been removed for all configurations. These life limits are currently documented in AMM Temporary Revisions (TR) 06-117751-TR04-3 for S/N 000001 through 000262, 000266 and 000267 and in 06-123838-TR04-1 for S/N 000262 through 000265 and 000268 and up. Performance of the already required 4,800 flight hour recurring structural inspection described in Chapter 5 of the AMM continues to be a requirement for maintaining the expanded life limits. This 4,800 flight-hour inspection was expanded to include the visual inspection of the left side frame station (FS) 133 at the junction of LH Frame FS 133 and the LH Aft Lower Windshield Beam not previously included. Additionally, the life extension inspection requirement, defined in SB 500-04-006, has been removed. These changes are documented in 06-117751-TR05-15 and 06-123838-TR05-10. Currently, these life limit changes are applicable to US "N" registered aircraft. Eclipse is working to get the new life limits accepted by other civil aviation authorities.
